Webcomic Wednesday: Be More Chill Fanfiction

Be More Chill is a really amazing musical that I hope to see someday in the near future! It portrays high school in a way that I think no other play has done before, it is so realistic. It doesn’t treat high schoolers as overgrown middle schoolers, but it also shows that high schoolers do need emotional support and aren’t just completely unfeeling and lazy young adults like some musicals portray them. Be More Chill has such an amazing balance, and you can feel it just by listening to the soundtrack on Spotify.

But I am not here before to talk about the musical, as I haven’t seen it yet! I am here to talk about my favorite Instagram fan webcomic renditions of Be More Chill. Here is one of my favorite Be More Chill Webcomic/Fanfiction authors!

Artistic_Hoarder

Artistic_Hoarder has a webcomic/fanfiction going about Michael, Jeremy, and Christine after Jeremy loses the Squip. Jeremy is with both Christine and Michael, but in more recent installments he has been leaning more towards his best friend for life Michael. The Squip forced him to ignore Michael even when all he wanted was to spend time with his best friend, and now they have to heal their friendship and deal with their feelings for one another.

Michael and Jeremy are not together in the play, but Jeremy is crushing on Christine for most of the play, so this webcomic/fanfiction is more canon than some of my other favorites. Jeremy’s mother also shows up for a time, which leads to a few arguments over Jeremy having a boyfriend. This probably wouldn’t occur canonically because Michael has two moms and Jeremy’s mother does not come back, but it is really a nice touch that this author added into this story.

I can’t wait for this story to be continued, I am on the literal edge of my seat! I am just going to constantly be rereading the previous episodes until the next one comes out. Definitely check it out!

Here is where I believe that the main comic arc started, but there is other random Be More Chill little scenes before it that you might want to check out.

You could start from here and still understand what is going on generally. It is also mostly Be More Chill and no Heathers content from this point on. If you like Heathers, read down from this point and check out some cool fanart!

And here is the current feed that you can check out for yourself!

Webtoon Wednesdays: Let’s Play Webtoon Review

Image result for let's play webtoon

This Webtoon Wednesday is less of a review and more of me just talking about a Webtoon I started reading yesterday. I instantly fell in love with it, but I am only about 5 chapters in. Half of the characters in the picture above I haven’t even met in the Webtoon yet!

Sam is a game developer, and she was originally proud of her first puzzle-adventure game Ruminate. She spent hours and hours on it and was so happy when it had been given positive reviews on the indie game site she published it on. Then a Youtuber named Marshall gave her game a bad review online. He didn’t even read the instructions, got frustrated when he couldn’t get past the game, and ended the video trying to give “criticism” to the game’s developer. His fans then went and review-bombed Sam’s profile on the site until it was taken down for having such a high volume of negative reviews at one time. Then, Marshall moves in next door, and Sam has to figure out how she is going to deal with the neighbor that basically ruined her life.

I love how this comic represents people with social anxiety. Sam didn’t break down meeting Marshall, but then she had a panic/asthma attack with her friends when she was thinking about how to live next to him all the time.

This comic also talks about being a Youtuber or an indie game dev. Marshall had to be up all hours of the night, even when he was tired, just to make content for his viewers. Even when he was tired he would put on a happy face just to try to put out content on a regular basis. Sam put a lot of time and effort into her project, but one big Youtuber getting the wrong idea about her game, and her career was just about ruined in an instant. Review bombed and the original ratings might never return. I have never heard of this happening to someone who actually didn’t do something wrong in the gaming community (like a Youtuber calling out a developer for being a racist or bad to his employees or something), but I am sure that it has happened. I am glad that Mongie, the author, is bringing light to these important issues.

I am not going to give a rating as I am not very far in the episodes, but I will update you all on my final rating in a different post once I am completely caught up. Thanks for reading!

Mage & Demon Queen Review

【Comic Dub】- Mage & Demon Queen -【Episode 1-3】 - YouTube

I love this little webtoon! Malori is a Mage, and she is one of the best. Rather than doing what most mages do and working on becoming stronger simply to gain power, she works towards getting stronger in order to defeat the Demon Queen. Well, not exactly defeat her, Malori wants to weaken her, and then date her.

Malori has to go to the tower all the time to try and work her way up to the Queen’s floor and has befriended all the demons below. The demons secretly want her to date the queen, so they just let her go by so she can save her strength and items for the real battle. Malori hasn’t succeeded yet, but she, unlike the other adventurers, wants her heart instead of her head.

I honestly need more gay fantasy comics in my life, they are so funny, and they are so well drawn! Malori has both demon and human friends, both of which have their own love lives. One of my favorite parts of the entire comic is Curik’s secret crush (not Malori, it’s not a love triangle thank goodness), and I hope that things work out for the two of them in the end!

At the beginning of the story she seems to be a bit of a weaker foolish girl, but as the story progresses, you see that that is very far from the truth. There are even hints throughout the story so far about a “dark past” for her character, and a few of the recent episodes have been completely based around her childhood memories, so I am excited to see what happens next.

Did I mention that the art is amazing! Honestly, all these webtoons seem as if they were made by a team of animators rather than just a single person and his or her talent. The only thing that the creator seems to be assisted with is the proofreading of the story. I can’t believe how talented she is. The comic is even updated every Tuesday and Thursday, like this is amazing dedication!

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes LitRPG or fantasy books or webtoons/manga. The webtoon only has 39 episodes so far, so you would definitely be able to completely catch up over winter break.

My Dictator Boyfriend Webtoon Review

My dictator boyfriend.PNG

Manny has just become the dictator of a nation, but he doesn’t know if he will be able to do a good job taking his father’s place. He doesn’t seem to be able to do anything right, and the people around him don’t take him seriously. Manny’s father is even still working with the people that are supposed to be working for him! He is given a bodyguard so that he will be protected at all times, but he starts to fall for him! Will Manny be able to keep up the facade that he wants a girlfriend, or will he succumb to his bodyguard’s charm and become his boyfriend?

I am not completely up to date with this cartoon, but after reading several episodes of it, I knew that I would have to make an in-depth review of it. I usually don’t like the strictly comedy comics that Webtoons has to offer, as they are usually too cheesy for me to bear. I become uninterested after reading a few episodes. Nevertheless, I love this Webtoon, and I was both entertained by it and addicted to it.

Manny is such a sweet character. He is honestly trying his best to be a dictator, but he just wasn’t cut out for that type of thing. He doesn’t like being forced to socialize with random old men, and he doesn’t know what to do when put in charge of large groups of people. He does things without thinking sometimes, which gets him into trouble quite often. He even gets in trouble with his boyfriend for just leaping into things without really considering the consequences.

I think his relationship with his guard is so sweet, even if it is in this hilarious alternate reality where silly dictators rule the land. I hope that in future episodes we will get to see more of Manny’s relationship with his father, and how that affected his upbringing. We have seen some of this in a flashback or two and some of Manny’s conversations with his dad, but this hasn’t fully been expanded upon. I am really excited to see what else will come of this place!

I also really enjoy the art of this Webtoon. I like the art of all the Webtoons I read, but this one just fit the story. Even the color purple as the color that Manny wears seems to suit him. I can’t explain all of it, but it is really pretty to look at.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an actually funny comedy Webtoon!

Miss Abbott & The Doctor Review

Miss Abbott And The Doctor Ch.9 Online

Dr. Andreas Marino is the doctor of a small town, and he expects his life to be structured and normal. However, a young lady named Cati soon moves into town. She has just come from a trip to visit the Amazons, and soon Dr. Andreas’ life is filled with excitement and mirth as Miss Abbott/Cati falls for the doctor.

This comic is a weekly Saturday comic. It is amazing as it is historical fiction, made just a bit more realistic. No perfect relationships, or proper courting, or humble, homely housewives. Every person in this comic has a unique personality that shines through in everything that they do. THis comic even has LGBTQ representation in a historical setting. People tried to tell the author when she had a lesbian character that “there were no lesbians in the past” She quickly shot them down in the next update with black and white pictures of gay and lesbian couples throughout time. I love this comic, and its author, and I hope that you give it a try.
