Tribulation Review (Cops Planet #1)

I signed up for a tour of this book, and I was looking forward to a good paranormal thriller novel. I think my face must have been in a constant state of confusion from the start of this novel to the end.

The novel starts with the main female villain getting mad at one of her servants for serving her a bad breakfast. She BITES his neck as a punishment? I was like…okay so they are vampires! Nope! She is just a regular human lady who bites her servants’ necks when she gets mad. They also say her husband is dead, a topic that doesn’t come up again and that doesn’t seem to be true since he is alive for the rest of the book. That’s when I knew I was in for some ridiculousness.

The main plot of this book is that this lady and her husband Alex killed this girl Ana last year, and now they are seeing her ghost because she is back for revenge. There was a plot about Alex killing her father, which I also never really understood, but I just let slide. In fact, I think that this book probably had 3 stars from me until the last major scene. And this is where spoilers come into play, so if you don’t want this book spoiled for you, don’t read the rest of the review!

So the big twist of the book is that Ana isn’t dead. How isn’t she dead, she was shot multiple times? Apparently she was saved by God, because her best friend Emily was there and managed not to be seen by the murderers and was able to DIG UP HER FRIENDS BODY and get her to the hospital before she died. And no, I’m not being snarky about the saved by God comment, that’s what the book says. Then Ana makes it through a 6-month coma and comes back to get her revenge. Okay. This is highly improbable. But fine. I’ll just deduct half a star.

THEN, the problem of how they got revenge. The main thing I thought was stupid included a drone with a blood bag. They wanted to scare them into thinking that blood was dripping from the ceiling. Rather than just rigging some sort of camouflage blood bag, they said that they tied two tiny blood bags to a soundless drone to fly over them on the ceiling and pop the bags on the chandelier. For starters, even SMALL drones are pretty loud. And even if it made no sound, I think they would have noticed something flying in their own house. And they would have seen the thing fly into the chandelier. Not to mention, if it was only a little bit of blood, it probably would have just bloodied the chandelier and not dropped onto their heads in a noticeable way. Nearly every way they tried to scare the two villains was ridiculous in this way. Deducting another half star, now we are down to 2.

Then, Ana tricks them into believing that her best friend died from driving drunk in the time since her “murder.” Somehow this made Alex reveal that he killed her father so they could get it on tape. Just for her to make a grand entrance 2 seconds later. So in the space of about a page or two, we get surprised that a character is dead and then surprised that she is alive again.

Then the thing that completely made me go one star in this book was when Ana and Emily kill Alex and Casie. They kill the monsters who tried to kill Ana and killed her father along with Emily’s boyfriend. And who constantly tortured their servants. I was like, great the book is done. But then Steven, who I think was Ana’s boyfriend, was like I can’t be with you anymore after what you’ve done, I hid my real profession from you! Still standing in the same room with the bodies. At this point, I was ready to throw my Kindle at a wall. Then Rocky, Ana’s brother is like “I’m a cop, I told you not to kill them, now I have to arrest you.” Like….WHAT? This is your SISTER who was supposed to be killed by these people. If you didn’t want to kill them, why confront them like this? Are you dumb? You are a cop, you could have arrested them as soon as Emily came back with your sister’s half-dead body to the hospital. But no, you waited the year for this revenge plot, just to be on the last page like “SIKE I gotta arrest you now, I know he killed two people we loved and tried to kill you but I TOLD you not to kill him.” And Steven’s just saying “I’m with you bro.” Like that’s your GIRLFRIEND who this man tried to KILL! You should’ve been the one helping to pull the trigger. Again, what’s the point of all this vigilante revenge plot just to be like at the end “I didn’t want you to kill them tho.” You didn’t need any proof, just get some of the servants to act as witnesses and tell the law that they tried to kill your sister when she was in a coma months ago. Emily was THERE she saw the bodies!

I’m not sure how to say that this book should have been improved. I can’t say that it should have been made longer to flesh out the characters more because the actual plot itself is flawed. All I can say is that I don’t recommend this book.

I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
