An Angel. A Witch. A Demon. And A Choice.

Creatures from outer realms suck, as any gatekeeper worth their salt will tell you. Welcome to Rogan’s life, an orphaned seventeen-year-old who lives and trains with other misfits under her uncle’s roof, keeping Earth safe from non-human realm jumpers. Rogan’s biggest issue concerns her uncle’s short leash with her freedom—that is of course, until she’s taken by a notorious witch, and her life begins to unravel. Soon, the supernatural beauty discovers there’s a reason her uncle kept such a tight lock on her whereabouts, and that she has more than angel blood running through her veins.

Eighteen-year-old Max is an angel, and Rogan’s mentor and guardian. He’s well aware of her tenacious inability to obey orders, though he also knows she’s a fierce fighter. When he’s involved in a scheme that ultimately gets Rogan kidnapped, he must battle his way back to her in an attempt to save her from the darkness threatening to possess her.

This novel started off on a good foot, got a little sidetracked right before the end, and then started wrapping things up well. Rogan was rebellious and always wanted to escape the overprotectiveness of her uncle Castle, but she didn’t realize what she would be getting into. Max is also interesting as he and Rogan both love each other but neither wants to admit it. Seeing their romance bloom throughout this novel was definitely special.

The action scenes were a bit confusing at times with how fast they were. They felt as if they were written like a movie, and this was hard to read. They did improve as the story went on.

The worldbuilding was great in some places and then confusing in others as well. I was confused when Rogan went away and lived separated from Max. The two environments started to blend together, and it made me very confused by the end. However, it came back together again by the end of the storyline.

There were no editing errors in the advanced version of this novel!

I also thought that the plot of this story moved quite smoothly. I really enjoyed reading about each of the individual characters and every plot twist was unique. I couldn’t put it down once I started.

I would definitely recommend this book to lovers of urban fantasy and YA novels with a dash of romance here and there.
