Jessa often dreams about other worlds. It has helped her to escape the world where her parents are divorced, and the only constant in her life is her autistic older brother Danny. She writes stories about her dreams, and she thinks that no one else will ever know about them. That is, until one of her characters named Finn shows up in real life. Then, he tells her that she and he are Travelers and have the ability to travel to alternate realities. There are some dangers of traveling into alternate realities, such as dying in that reality and having another Jessa stuck in her body, permanently. Finn has traveled to this reality to stop this Jessa from dying like some of the other alternate Jessas, and he is determined to succeed in his mission.
This has to be one of the best “Time Travel/Alternate Universe Travel” novels that I have read in a long time. It doesn’t sugarcoat traveling and instead speaks about the potential dangers and the complete mind switches that are bound to occur. This makes it realistic and relatable.
Jessa’s character was definitely 3-Dimensional. I loved her relationship with her brother, and how he understood how to defuse a situation before her brother became upset. She loved her brother for who he was, and that made the family relationship really special even though I didn’t see that much of her relationship with her mother.
I’m not a big fan of love triangles, but I didn’t mind Finn and Ben both being in the story. For the most part, the plot did not revolve around them, so I was able to kinda ignore it and move past.
Finn was definitely a unique character, but I really enjoyed viewing the Finns of the other world more than the current Finn.
Lastly, my favorite part of the book was definitely its pacing. Even though it was 350 e-pages, I felt as if it was nothing. I flew through this story with the fast-paced plot and interesting characters and was ready for the next installment right away.
I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a new YA fantasy-romance-universe-travel novel!
