Top Ten Tuesdays are a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl .
1) Cinder
I am not a fan of the entire Lunar Chronicles, but I am still happy that I was able to finish the series. I feel that if I hadn’t finished it, it would have just sat on my TBR for years. By finishing the entire series in about one year, I was able to get it out of the way. It also made me realize that even though I didn’t like this series, I really do like fairy tale retellings.
2) Finders Keepers
I never finished reading this one, but it definitely enlightened me. I realized how much I absolutely despise comedic fantasy novels. I now have decided not to even try to read or review comedic fantasies, and it has worked out rather well for me.
3) Superhighway
This novel showed me that I can absolutely despise a book’s protagonist but still enjoy the novel. The world-building and plot of this novel were rather interesting, but the immature and irresponsible main character continued to throw me out of the story. I had to accept the fact that while the novel was great, the main character was simply awful.
4) Allegiant
This cover of the novel is actually really nice! I’ll bet plenty of people had this novel on their lists, and if you read the trilogy, you know exactly why. The trilogy just seemed to go off on a tangent in this novel, and the ending was just horrible. I wish that it could just be re-written entirely from the middle of Insurgent onwards. It taught me about how a trilogy can be amazing for the first book and half of the second, but then just be bad.
5) City of Heavenly Fire
This series should have stayed a trilogy. It had no reason to become more than that, and this book shows exactly why. Characters die for no reason, it is too long for no reason, and it just seems like a mess of the extra plot pieces that had been added being “tied up” in a messy way.
6) Hamlet
I know that I had to read this for English, but it is just bad. Hamlet is so whiny throughout the entire thing. His mother does something he doesn’t like, and he disrespects her and basically calls her an adulterous horrible woman. When his girlfriend stops paying attention to him, he tells her to go be a nun and verbally harasses her for fun. One of the lines is literally, “Oh. I am slain.” (http://nfs.sparknotes.com/hamlet/page_196.html). It was painful to get through this one, and I won’t be reading it again.
This week will only have 6 books because I tend to really just not dislike books for any particular good reason usually, but hopefully next week I will reach 10!
I enjoy retellings, too. I liked Cinder, but no book is for everyone! 🙂 My TTT
I definitely have plenty of retellings reviewed on my blog. I should have a category for them XD
