The Epic Crush of Genie Lo Review

The Epic Crush of Genie Lo

Genie Lo hopes to be able to get into a good college, and getting good grades in her academic private school is going to get her there. Then, a male transfer student named Quentin Sun arrives and immediately latches on to her. She wants to avoid him at all costs, but he tells her that he needs her to help him. He claims to be Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, and she doesn’t believe him until he shows her his tail. Then, monsters from Chinese folklore start attacking the town. Now, it is up to Genie and Quentin to fight these monsters and save everyone.

I really enjoyed this book. I always loved books based on mythology, yet I never truly latched onto the Percy Jackson books that much. Instead, I focused more on the mythology of other cultures. I loved the Kane Chronicles and Ash Mistry Chronicles. This book will simply go onto the list of mythology books I love. The only real complaint I had about the story was that thought Genie was a little annoying at times. Nevertheless, these slightly annoying times disappeared as the story went on and she fell into her role of protecting others.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a YA action-adventure series based on Chinese mythology.

    1. You’d definitely like it! It is only 3 bucks for Amazon Kindle, so you could get it there. I was just lucky that my school’s library had a physical copy.
