The Alchemist is a classic that tells the story of a boy on a journey to find treasure. This boy’s name is Santiago and he lives in Spain, but his treasure is near the Great Pyramids of Egypt. He has to leave his sheep and travel across countries, meeting several unique people, in order to find his treasure.
I had heard that this book was amazing, and I even borrowed it from a friend just to read it! I was really drawn in by how he meets all of these people along his journey. Soon, I forgot about the main storyline of trying to find the treasure and instead wondered who Santiago would meet next along his journey.
I have to say that the descriptive language did get to be a bit much for me. I tend to read more plot-based stories without much poetic-ness, and I really don’t understand poetry when I do read that. That drew me out of the story for a bit, and by the middle, I did get a little bored, but I was determined to at least finish this so that I could maybe see what everyone was speaking about.
I did enjoy the ending of this novel, and I enjoyed some of the lessons that were taught throughout! I think that if the language hadn’t been so poetic, I definitely would have finished this novel faster. However, I understand that this is the way with classic novels, and I just have to learn how to work through it.
Overall, this was definitely a relaxing and enjoyable read to finish off my spring break with, and I am happy to say that I finished yet another classic novel in 2018! I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a classic almost-fairytale with descriptive writing and a wonderful tale.
Overall Rating: 4/5
I love this book! It came to me at just the right time!
I’m glad that you liked it!
I read this book over the summer and fell in love with it! I think that it’s the type of book that you can read over and over again as you go through different stages of your life and get a different meaning from it each time. I’m glad you seemed to enjoy it as well!
Maybe I will read it again in a few years and write a second review.
That would be really cool to do! Like a side by side comparison.
Yeah, I will definitely try to remember XD
Great review ❤
