This story takes place after the events of Trident, book 8 of the Freya Snow series. It can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest that you read the Freya Snow series first! It will definitely make this story a more fun read for you.
Alex has left Freya, but she is not going to be accepted by her Enhanced handlers. In fact, they are furious with her for going against them and want to imprison her. She wants to stay on the run, but her friend Gus does not want to leave behind the rest of their family. Alex cannot understand how they could really be family, but she has been on the run while the people close to her were still trapped. She decides to return with Gus, and fight her handlers.
I have to admit, it took me longer than normal to get into this. I wanted to focus solely on Alex, but I just wasn’t getting into her storyline. I did get into it by the end, but until then I had to find another person to focus on instead.
I chose to focus on Gus’ storyline, and boy was I in for a ride. I loved the fact that he didn’t want to forget about those left behind, rather than just escaping with Alex. The beginnings of his relationship at the end of the story also made me really happy, and I hope to be able to read more of that in the next book.
I also enjoyed the fact that this book was multiple POV, giving me so many perspectives on the situations.
I would definitely recommend this book, and I cannot wait to read book 2!
