Moon Scorned (Raven Moon Wolves #1)
Expected Publication Date: January 5th, 2022
Genre: Upper YA/ Shifter/ Paranormal Romance
I fell hard and fast for the alpha of an elite pack.
Then he rejected me.
Everly
Asher took off when I needed him most, rejecting me and my inner wolf. Then my half-sister is murdered at an exclusive college that’s enshrouded in magic and secrets. When the school offers me a scholarship, I accept and move onto campus. I’m going to find out who killed her, then rip them apart. And if I run into Asher while I’m there? He’ll learn I’m no longer his sweet little thing. He’s about to taste the fury of a wolf shifter scorned.
Asher
Everly’s everything to me, but to protect her, I had to shove her away. If I go near her, the Drudge Pack will discover who she truly is. My father—their enforcer—will kill her. But when she shows up at Ravenmire College, my inner wolf hungers. I’ll do anything to keep her safe—even if that means sacrificing myself and betraying my dangerous family.

Teen shifters Asher and Everly had been happily together for a couple of years until Asher sees a small mark on the back of Everly’s back. He knows that the mark means that Everly is a person his controlling father has been trying to find for years and decides to break up with her to hide her from him. This hurts them both deeply as they are fated mates, but Asher just wants to keep Everly safe. Little does he know that Everly is already in danger as her sister has just been murdered at her prestigious private school. Everly walks right into the danger that Asher thinks he is protecting her from, on a quest to find out what really happened to her sister.
I love shifter romances but most of them tend to be in the adult realm of fiction. I would read these adult books at 16 or 17 years old just to read paranormal romance novels and definitely got introduced to some very toxic relationship tropes at a young age. Books like this one would have been a far better read for me at that age and a better introduction to the genre as a whole. A book that still discusses some of my favorite paranormal romance tropes such as fated mates and shifters, but from the perspective of high school and early college-aged teens.
Everly has been through a lot in her young life. She was born from a wolf mother and a father who could do magic. This makes her a shifter who is also able to do some weak magic, but her parents passed away before they could really teach her any magic. She and her sister have relied on one another for support for years, with Asher filling in the hole for the past few years while her sister has been away at school. As a person who is also close to her sister, I was sympathetic to Everly’s story. I am the older sister in this situation, but I still couldn’t imagine knowing that my death left my already-orphaned sister to fend for herself. Everly still manages to pull through, using the memory of her sister to fuel her mission.
The one thing that I didn’t like about this book was that Asher never truly apologized to Everly for the hurt he did to her by completely dumping her and abandoning her in that way. It was very Twilight New Moon-esque to me. He literally refused to even speak to her as he wanted to make the break “clean” but he didn’t even know that she was just looking for a person to comfort her after she received the news that her sister had been killed. I wanted him to at least grovel a little bit once they saw each other again later in the book, but it seemed like he just wanted things to continue on as normal.
There is a lot going on in this book besides Asher and Everly’s romantic plot. There are shifter pack politics, corrupt leaders, untrustworthy fae, and a school that seems to hold a wide variety of secrets. I felt like those things weren’t gone into detail as much in this installment of the series as both Everly and Asher are very much out of the loop with the truth of what is going on in their world. The ending of this book sets up a situation where a lot is going to have to be explained in the second book of this series, and I can’t wait to discover what has REALLY been going on.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a new YA paranormal romance novel to read.
I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 books.
