Natalie must protect her mother and brother from her abusive stepfather. She has dreams, but she will do anything to keep them safe. She also wants to avenge the death of her part-aboriginal father, so she is determined to find out the truth about how he died. This book is a historical fiction novel based in Australia during the 1950s and talks about many of the issues the country had during that time. It also touches on more difficult issues, such as the issue of Natalie falling for her middle-aged married boss at 17 years old. It is definitely a tough read, but it is still an important book that will teach readers many lessons.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an inspirational historical fiction novel about hardships and family ties.
