Annabelle has always been happy with her quiet, normal life. Like most people in Elderan, extreme poverty is all Annabelle has ever known. After humans seized power from the witches 100 years ago, Elderan collapsed along with the witches’ reign — but Annabelle has everything she needs in her boyfriend and parents.

Until one day she doesn’t.

When Annabelle’s parents are mysteriously murdered, she finds herself barely able to keep it together — and it only gets worse when a wolf shifter named Angelo arrives and explains to her that she’s not nearly as normal as she once thought.

Annabelle is a witch, the last of her kind, and it’s her destiny to help return Elderan to its former glory. But how can she focus on saving her entire country when she’s coming apart at the seams? How can she trust Angelo and his pack mates, Lio and Rhyion?

…and how can she keep herself from falling in love with them?

My Review

Annabelle had a normal life. She loved her boyfriend Jacob, she had a good relationship with her parents, and she was doing well in school. Then her parents were murdered, and her life fell apart. Two years later, she is still living with her boyfriend and taking medicines every day to numb her emotions and live with the pain of her parents’ death. Then, on a seemingly normal waitressing shift, Annabelle serves a strange shifter. She doesn’t think much of it, but later that night, someone attacks her. The shifter appears, kills her attacker, and teleports her to an island full of shifters. Apparently, she is the last witch alive, and it is her duty to take Elderan from the corrupt ruler.

I have to say, this book was definitely a breath of fresh air. Even though Annabelle is not a teen when the “harem” stuff starts happening, she was a teen at the start of the story. And she LOVED her family. Unlike so many YA characters that I see nowadays, she appreciated all that her parents had done for her. She even wanted to skip hanging out with her boyfriend Jacob to spend more time with her parents. I was actually sad when her parents were killed because she loved them so much.

Then we get to the actual main part of the story. Annabelle has to learn how to harness her powers, but she keeps feeling overwhelmed by her own emotions. She isn’t like other annoying female protagonists who just give up when they feel “overwhelmed” and constantly try to push off their duties, but she struggles and pushes through until she reaches success.

The plot of these books are smooth without any annoying POV switches, and the stories flow right from one to the next. They are all fairly short, and I read the entire series almost in one series. There was very little chemistry between the characters in this book, but this will change in the later books of this series! Trust me.

I would recommend this book to lovers of reverse harem and fantasy-romance novels with a “Chosen One” female main character.

The Forsaken Royal.jpgTitle: THE FORSAKEN ROYAL: A Reverse Harem Urban Fantasy (Annabelle’s Harem Book 2)

Annabelle doesn’t know who she has left to trust. After being captured by King Robert of Elderan, a brutal ruler who will stop at nothing to make sure witches never rule the country again, Annabelle has been cut off from everyone and everything — including her powers as a witch.

Until Angelo, a member of her shifter guard, arrives to save her.

When the attempt fails, Angelo’s left mortally wounded and the King is determined to make Annabelle pay. While Annabelle nurses Angelo back to health, the other members of her guard, Lio and Rhyion, devise a plan to overthrow King Robert — and Annabelle finds her feelings for all three members of her guard deepening as intensely as her desire to see King Robert fal.

Annabelle is a witch, the last of her kind, and it’s her destiny to return Elderan to its former glory. But how can she focus on saving her entire country when she’s worried about Angelo’s safety? How can she topple an abusive King when he is equally as powerful as her?

…and how can she stay focused as she’s falling even deeper in love with the men who protect her?

My Review

When Annabelle is captured and her powers muted, she thinks that it is over for her and the boys. She doesn’t know what is happening to the shifters on the island, and she can’t do anything to protect them. Feeling stupid for trusting Jacob, she resigns herself to death by hunger strike. Then, Angelo risks his life to save her. They regroup and continue their mission to destroy King Robert, but now they know the true strength of the king.

In this book, the harem truly starts to form. Before, Annabelle only felt like she loved Lio. Now, her feelings for Angelo start to show and she has to figure out how to keep both men happy. They aren’t jealous of each other and consider it to be an honor to be a part of their witch’s harem, but she still stresses on making them both feel included.

The story also picks up in intensity as King Robert gets bolder and Jacob is determined to serve him well. Annabelle must discover powers that she didn’t even know she had to prepare for the fight of her life. Her harem will always be behind her, but she is the one with powers who must learn to fight for herself. Soon, she starts having strange dreams, and those dreams might be the key to their success.

This book moved just as smoothly as the last, but as the in-between book of the trilogy, it seemed to be even shorter. I loved every scene I got of Angelo and Annabelle getting closer, and Lio wasn’t forgotten. There were some steamy scenes, but this harem was more about an emotional connection than sex.

I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a new reverse harem series or a new fantasy/romance series.

The Fearless Royal.jpgTitle: THE FEARLESS ROYAL: A Reverse Harem Urban Fantasy (Annabelle’s Harem Book 3)

One woman, three men — and their desire to reclaim their kingdom.

Annabelle is so close and yet still so far from defeating King Robert. The closer she gets to finding the key to overthrowing him, the more complications seem to rise up. But she is determined to destroy him because if she doesn’t her home country of Elderan will rot in poverty and turmoil forever.

Up until this point, Annabelle has only been focused on one thing: destroying King Robert and saving her country of Elderan from his wrath. But now that she is actually close to defeating him, she has to learn more than magic.

One of the members of her royal guard, Rhyion, helps to teach Annabelle everything she needs to know about the government of Elderan. As Annabelle considers what kind of Queen she is going to be, she also has to consider that her feelings for Rhyion are growing. But she’s already in a relationship with the two other members of her guard, Angelo and Lio, is it greedy of her to want Rhyion too?

…and can she balance her love of the three of them with the responsibility of being Queen of Elderan?

This steamy reverse harem urban fantasy is the final book in the Annabelle’s Harem series! Readers will be absorbed in the action, adventure, and romance in the last book of the series.

My Review

The series comes to an end as Annabelle prepares for her last fight. People have died leading up to this, and Annabelle is prepared to destroy King Robert and take the kingdom back for her own. Her dreams about her mother have allowed her to hone her skills and learn about things that she would have never known about before, and Rhyion helps her to analyze her dreams and pick out small details that she would have accidentally ignored. Rhyion also teaches her about the government both before and after the witches’ fall so that she will be prepared to rule after she defeats King Robert. Jacob also hasn’t given up, and he will do everything in his power to protect the King.

Rhyion finally receives some love in this book, which is well deserved as I felt that he had been virtually forgotten in the previous novels. He is the brains of the group and so he wasn’t off saving Annabelle from danger, but he was just as vital to the team. I only wish that there was more time in the series to spend on him and his story because I’m sure he has a good one as the only dragon shifter in the group.

Also, I must admit, the final battle was a little underwhelming. There were two books of buildup to this battle, and I thought that it was over too quickly. Even Annabelle’s fight with Jacob was more exciting that her fight with the King.

That was my only pet peeve for this story, as I thought that the series ended on a really high note! Seeing how Annabelle acted as the Queen of Elderan was truly a treat, and I wish there were more books about her rule! This world truly gave witches power, and she even had a harem of equally powerful men under her who would risk their lives for her safety. I would definitely like to hear more about their adventures, and I am sad to see the story end.

There were no POV switches, and the story moved smoothly through the battles and onto Annabelle’s reign. There was definitely a lot of suspense as King Robert became bolder as the battle approached and tried to hurt Annabelle through the people that she cared about. I flew through this last book in one sitting, and I would definitely love to read it again.

I would recommend this series to lovers of reverse harem novels or fantasy/romance books.
