Synopsis:

A secret buried for generations. A conspiracy that threatens humanity’s future. And one woman who must risk everything to uncover the truth.

The THETIS is humanity’s last hope: a generation ship carrying the last remnants of Earth to resettle on a new planet.

For two hundred years, its society has flourished under the banner of unity and cooperation. But beneath this carefully maintained facade lurks a truth so devastating it could spell doom for their entire future on their new home.

The key to uncovering the truth lies in the hands of SANDRINE LIET, an introverted Archivist who has everything to lose by pitting herself against the most powerful people on the ship.

The deeper she digs, the more evident it becomes that there is only one way to save both herself and her fellow Thetans from the ominous scheme plotted by the Thetis elite – and it’s the most horrifying choice imaginable…

First Impressions Review at 50%

Sandrine is smart, caring, and passionate about the good of the people on the THETIS hurtling through space to try to repopulate humanity on a new planet. The people on the ship now are far removed from the original generations of adults who boarded from Earth. They know nothing of what it was like to live on Earth, and will likely die before the ship reaches the new planet. Everyone is doing everything they can to ensure their genetic line or GenLine makes it through all the necessary generations in order for their descendants to see the new planet. There are very strict rules as to who is and is not allowed to have children, and taking away someone’s privilege to procreate is one of the worst punishments someone can face on the THETIS. Something happened with Sandrine a few years ago and she doesn’t know if she will be allowed to have children, but we don’t know exactly what. All we know is that Sandrine works as an Archivist and is very suspicious of some of the politicians who seem to be desperate to have her sweep a could-be scandal under the rug. The further she digs into it, the more she realizes that the core beliefs she has held for a lifetime as a resident of this ship could be at risk.

The world that Noam Josephides builds in this novel contains a unique mixture of science fiction, fantasy, and political thriller storytelling. Many of the issues plaguing the citizens of THETIS are the same issues we see in the real world today, but then you remember that they are on a giant ship hurtling through space and are the last remnants of humanity, and the stakes become even higher. The way power is decided on THETIS is seemingly democratic, but in every democracy, there are still ways to unfairly sway the people. Those on THETIS are supposed to be working for the good of every single human being on the ship to be able to make it to their destination, but would some choose to threaten that to gain more power? What are the benefits that can be gained by holding secrets and trying to change what the citizens view as reality?

This is a slow-burn science fiction novel that contains a colorful cast of characters in a truly one-of-a-kind world, and I’m truly on the edge of my seat to find out what Sandrine discovers at the end of her hunt for the truth.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for new science fiction novel to enjoy.
