Genre: YA Fiction/Monsters/Thriller
When an army of relentless mummies, a life-sucking ooze called The Glob, and a hybrid reanimated Behemoth rise from the depths of Monsterland, who will survive?
When I first grabbed this book, I didn’t realize that it was the second book in a series. I read it as a standalone, and it wasn’t the worst experience! Some of the references to the previous book went over my head, but this book still does a good job of explaining itself enough that I could get through it. I would recommend getting the first book before reading this one though. From the hints I got in this novel, the first one was awesome!
The book is told from two POVs, Wyatt and Igor. Wyatt is the teen who survived the last novel and is now trying to piece his life back together. Igor is a loyal friend of Victor who is determined to bring him back at any cost.
This book is definitely action-packed. It can be a bit gory at times, but I personally don’t usually mind that, so I loved it! It reminded me of playing the video game “Monster Madness Battle for Suburbia” where the characters just use random items to defeat the monsters. It really gives the book a personal feel because instead of having some sort of machine gun or magical weapon they are fighting with everyday items you would find on the street.
There was also a lot of worldbuilding. We got to see what is happening in the world since Monsterland has shut down, especially since several political figures died at the park. It was interesting to see Wyatt’s dad try and talk to neighboring cities, and seeing Igor’s side of things as Victor’s team are doing their things.
The plot moved smoothly. It took me a bit of time to get into the story, but once I was in I could barely put the book down. The way each scene had a new twist kept me addicted to the story throughout!
I did not notice any editing errors as I was reading this.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action-adventure books about teens fighting monsters.
